All the floggers produced by Alternative Oz are based on the same handle base.
Each handle starts as an Australian hardwood core made from Tasmanian Oak. The cores are either 22mm or 25mm diameter depending on the weight of the strands that they have to support.
The handle is then plaited using coloured kangaroo hide 6mm string. The two general patterns used are herringbone and v-pattern, though using either single or dual coloured string allows for a large range of different designs.
Each handle is then counter-balanced to match the unique weight of the strands that are being attached.
As part of the final assembly of each flogger the ends are finished in a plaited knot, and a hanging strap is added. Hanging straps are generally designed just to allow the toys to be hung up and are not large enough for wrist straps, but longer straps can be added to custom toys if required. Finally the handle is then finished with 2 coats of sealer.
Below are a few of the handles that have been created, showing the differnt patterns that can be created.

The range of colours available for plaiting handles is a little limited, but by no means sparse. Here are just a few of the colours that I have to work with...
